Are you looking for the best places to run in Denver? Look no further! I wrote this blog post up because I specifically wish I had this knowledge when I first moved here. I was almost overwhelmed by all the choices and needed to know the best running options. As a full-time realtor and armature ultra-marathon runner I’m happy to guide you to the Denver’s best trails. Let’s dive in and discover the top-rated running spots in Denver.

1.) North Table Mountain – Golden, CO
North Table Mountain takes the top spot as one of the best places to run in Denver. Begin your run at New Terrain Brewery, conveniently located near the mountain. Parking is free. I usually hit 3 miles up and around and then back down the same wayI came. The three-mile ascent and subsequent descent offer a challenging yet rewarding experience. As you traverse the trail, take in the breathtaking views and enjoy the refreshing scent of nature. Completing your run with a well-deserved beer at New Terrain brewery is the perfect way to celebrate your achievement.
2.) Green Mountain – Lakewood, CO
Green Mountain offers a versatile running experience with a variety of trails to explore. This mountain is a paradise for dog owners, as it is known for being exceptionally dog-friendly. Additionally, once you get on top of the mountain, it is pretty flat which makes it enjoyable. Find ample parking off Alameda Parkway and embark on a six-mile run, combining uphill, downhill, and flat terrains. The stunning views and invigorating fresh air make Green Mountain a perfect shake out any day of the week,
Please be mindful as I have seen some snake on this mountain during the summer. Any snake is less than ideal for you and your pets to come in contact with.
3.) Mount Morrison, Morrison, CO
To be fully transparent, I would not call this a, “run,” since you will be going almost straight up for the first half. But this is a fantastic trail to trail those calves and quads. Ascending 2,000 feet within a 3.6-mile out-and-back trail, this route will push your limits and reward you with breathtaking views.
You’ll be able to see Red Rocks on this hike, along with the rest of Denver. Keep in mind that Mount Morrison is exposed, so plan your run accordingly, especially during hot summer days. Expect a strenuous workout that will leave your muscles pleasantly fatigued by the end. Since it is grueling and scenic, I had to add it to my list of the top places to run around Denver.
Again, be careful for snakes.
4.) South Table Mountain
South Table Mountain is perfect for the avid runner not looking to have to climb a whole damn mountain. You can start at the parking lots closer to the main street that runs through Golden, CO. This trail provides a moderate amount of elevation gain and stunning views of Golden and Denver.
Although parking options may be limited, small spaces around the mountain offer access to the trails. Be sure to plan your run accordingly, as there is no designated parking lot. After your run, consider treating yourself to a couple of well-deserved beers at the Golden Mill.
5.) Matthews Winters Park, Morrison, CO
For a casual hike or run on a relaxing Saturday morning, Matthew’s Winters Park is an excellent choice. The trails are wide and offer little elevation gain, making it ideal for a family outing or running with your furry companions. However, keep in mind that parking is limited, so it’s best to arrive early on weekends to secure a spot.
Additionally, it will get rather packed here, so I would advise to hit this trail early in the morning. Enjoy the beautiful mountain views and immerse yourself in nature.
Denver offers an abundance of picturesque running spots that cater to all fitness levels and preferences. Even if you are just starting out, or if you are an ultra-running veteran, any of these trails will give you a challenge.
